OneLapCamaro.com is focused upon our efforts to design and build a “no-compromise” Pro-Touring style 1967 Camaro Rally Sport with our ultimate goal being to complete in the Cannonball One Lap of America – the penultimate endurance race for street legal automobiles. Work began on this project in early 2006 and from the start the concept was to build a modern muscle car that fused the look and spirit of the Trans Am race cars of the late 60’s with best technology and products available today.
Noted automotive artist John McBride created a rendering that captured the external styling goals of the project - a low, aggressive stance, wide wheels with low profile tires, simple, classic lines with bold color and stripes. For the last nine months the award winning crew at Heighton Restorations has been painstakingly working to turn John’s vision into a reality.
Suspension design for the project epitomizes the fusion of new and old. Lateral Dynamics has provided an amazingly designed 3-link rear suspension that will ensure that the OneLapCamaro is more than capable of competing with even purpose built cars while American Touring Specialties has transformed a stock front subframe into a one of a kind piece incorporating state of the art race car technology.
One of our goals with the OneLapCamaro project was to design an interactive space on the World Wide Web where we could share the excitement of the building of the car and the thrill of the competition with automotive enthusiasts around the world. Our website, www.OneLapCamaro.com showcases the efforts of everybody involved in the project and will continue to grow with streaming video of race events and other exciting features which we hope will allow everybody to share in the OneLapCamaro experience.
