Engine and Transmission

Katech Performance - Street Attack LS7

When it came time to chose an engine package for the OneLapCamaro, we looked no further than Katech Performance of Clinton Township, Michigan.  Katech are best known for their engine development work in the American Lemans Series and the outstanding performance of the C5.R and C6.R racecars.  With their domination of the 24-hour endurance races in Daytona and LeMans they are the unrivaled experts in GM road racing engines that are built to last.

We chose to build a Street Attack spec LS7 and sources a take-out long block from a 2007 Corvette Z06.  We found one such engine being pulled at Wheel 2 Wheel performance and had it sent to Katech for modification.

One of the things that Katech does during their Street Attack build is replacing the factory bearngs with new bronze bushings - here are some pictures of the process.

First, Katech takes the connecting rods and press out the factory split bushing.

Using a proprietary process, they install the solid bronze high modulus rod bushing in a manner that does not scuff or score either surface.

Then the rod gets sent over to the CNC manufacturing shop at Katech where they machine the contour of the bushing to match the factory rod.

Next an oil groove is machined on a CNC mill.

After assembly the engine undergoes basic dyno testing to ensure baseline performance on a mild pump gas tune.
